According to archaeological discovery, the history of this young city of Shenzhen can cast back to New Stone Age. The city originated from Jin Dynasty. Due to vicissitude of history and development, we now can see very few of its historic sites. However, there are quite a few historic sites in the Meilin Yicun residential area. They are ¡°Three Saint Palace¡± in Meilin Park, lichee forest originated since Ming Dynasty, and ¡°hundred year old banyan¡± plant located in the Meylin Yicun community area. These precious human historic sites have profound historical culture implications, they have become a significant part of Meilin Yicun community¡¯s historical origin, and they also made up a cultural symbol of the community. Through the practical working experiences, we have learned how to protect ancient architectures, not only it is important to protect the external appearance - remedy to make it look as old, but also we shall protect the surrounding environment. Thus, rules were established such as to examine the landmark regularly, maintenance, limitation to build any new surroundings, and fixing the surroundings, thus these rules helped to protect it well within the community. With regard to the Ming lichee forest, as a key object to be protected, Meilin Park specially designed an ¡°Ancient Lichee Zone¡±, to provide professional protection. In order to protect the hundred-year-old banyan, management of the community deliberately built protection barriers for ¡°hundred year ancient banyan¡±, hung an ¡°ID plate¡±. The organization of activities such as ¡°Love Trees Love Home¡± cutting pruning for ancient banyan and ¡°sketching works exhibition - Ancient Tree Old Rhythm¡± has attracted more and more residents to join the team of ancient wood safeguards, helped the residents to learn the importance to protect natural environment and ecosystem. Under the continuous efforts of community residents and management, these historic sights have brought up the attention from all across society. They helped to preserve history, provide reference and education, and rebuild the sparks of the history that had been covered with dust for a long time. |
